How Great Shall Be My Joy!

How Great Shall Be My Joy!
Sara at the Provo Temple

Sister Sara in Salt Lake City

Sara entered the MTC on Wednesday, February 3, 2010. Her wonderful friends, Kelsey and Katie, took her to the MTC and "dropped her off at the curb" after their goodbyes. Thanks for helping my girl out.

Soon, two young elders came out to take Sara's luggage and Sara walked into the MTC with "calm and confidence" as Katie put it. Kelsey took some great pictures and promptly sent them to us. Katie gave me a call and said all was well.

So, for the next 18 months, we will follow Sara and her "LIFE BEHIND THE TAG."

In Tooele Utah / Twelveth Letter

Date: Wed, 28 Apr 2010 14:25:36 -0600Subject: hello hello!From: sara.anderson@myldsmail.netTo: homeecdiva@hotmail.com
So the work has finally started!!!!! We had our trials and now it's the blessings!!!! We added SEVEN new investigators last week! It's exciting to see things come together!

Just FYI I really do only have 30 min on the computer before the other district comes in to e-mail so this will be a short e-mail. Sorry.

Last week we helped some Elders with a primary activity and so we taught 2 groups of 3-9 yr olds about who missionaries are, what we do, and part of the first lesson. It was so much fun!!! Luckily, b/c I was in primary back at home, I was able to know how to make 15 kids be quiet at the same time! So now I am super grateful that I was in primary!

Zone Conference was great! The old second counselor in the Primary pres. came. She sat next to me at lunch and asked me and 5 other missionaries about mission rules b/c her husband is going to be the new mission pres over the Washington DC mission.

OH HAPPY LATE ANNIVERSARY MOM AND DAD!!!! Sorry I forgot to say it last week.

You know how there is that story about he grasshoppers back when the pioneers came to Utah. WEll, I guess that still happens. Like every MAY! So come a few weeks from now Tooele is supposed to get tons of grasshoppers that eat everything in sight! AH.

Something exciting happened on Sunday, I got to sit through a whole RS meeting! I'm pretty sure that is the first time since I have been on my mission. It was nice.

We started teaching a new lady named Jacquline. She is from CA. She is so awesome!!!! She said something about "that other bible" and we told her about the Book of Mormon and pulled it out and she was like " That's it!!!" So I told her she could have it and she was so excited! It was just awesome! Best thing is that this referral was from a guy and he said that he drove past her house and she was out there and he waved as he drove by but then he felt like he should go back so he did and asked if he could come back with some friends from his church and she agreed and a week later we are in her house.

Sorry I don't have more time to write more. I have to write Pres. Sonne. I mailed you some pictures a couple days ago so I hope you get them. Love you all and thanks for the support, letters, and e-mails you send. Love you. Love, Sister Anderson

Sara and friendsa @ Gen. Conf. and Eleventh Letter

Date: Wed, 21 Apr 2010 15:06:06 -0600Subject: There are so many spiders!From: sara.anderson@myldsmail.netTo: homeecdiva@hotmail.com
I only get 30 min so I don't have long. SO I just printed everyones e-mail and did not read them so I will not be able to reply to them. Sorry. The ppl in the family history center are now only allowing missionaries 30 min to e-mail.

We have someone on date so that's way awesome!!! She is not in our area but she was a sister's refferal so that's exciting! She is on date for June but we are going to try and move it to May. So we will see how that goes! I went on splits for the first time last night and it went really well. I taught Shauna, she is the one on date for June.

Sister Turner had to go to the Dr and so while I was waiting for her in the waiting room a 5 year old boy came up to me and started talking to me. He "asked me out" like 30 times in the 35 min that we were talking. 35 min is a really long time to talk to a 5 year old by the way. He was way cute. He would randomly rub my arm and go " We can buy a car together and drive around!" Cute kid.

Oh, so I think I might die! There are black widows everywhere!! You know I hate spiders!

Oh, and I still have not gotten my package. And that is super exciting about the baby!!!

Once again I forgot my planner so I don't have my list of things I am going to write you.

Tasha's baptism was....interesting. I had to do everything b/c the ward mission leader went out of town, my comp "does not like the phone." The mom is never home, never picks up the phone, and will take like 1.5 days to get back to us. So, yeah, I did everything in a matter of 3 days. It was pretty stressful. But thankfully the District leader and his companion helped out. One of them gave a talk and the other said a prayer. Only 5 other people showed up to the baptism other than family and missionaries. So that was pretty sad. The word got out about her baptism but no one came. Oh and something super lame....she didn't come to church the next day!!!!! We called like 6 times in 12 hours, left messages, and stopped by the house Saturday and Sunday, twice! So that was frustrating.

Well, I don't even remember what else I was going to say in the e-mail. And no one has kicked me off even though I have been on for over 30 min. I just want immediate family on the phone and the way it works here is that you will call my phone. I guess I will call or e-mail you what time that will happen. Thanks for the letters and e-mails. Love you all. Love, Sister Anderson

Sara and Spanish Sisters and Tenth Letter

Date: Wed, 14 Apr 2010 14:50:04 -0600Subject: There are dogs everywhere!!!From: sara.anderson@myldsmail.netTo: homeecdiva@hotmail.com
Everyone has a dog!!! Or a cat. Or 3 horses. Or a goat! I am in the middle of nowhere! haha. But I like it because I only cover 7 wards ( 1 stake) So actually get to know people! It's wonderful. But sad news that there is absolutely no work. NONE. So it's hard going from an average of 6 lessons a day to 2 a day and one is the spiritual thought at dinner.....So things are very different. So to boost the work I was like "Sister Turner let's promote the Stop Smoking Program!" So we went to every ward mission leader, YW pres, and RS pres to have them announce to have members invite their smoker friends over and have us teach them the stop smoking program. So I really hope that will get us some lessons. We got 6 people to teach last sunday but I called all of them ( the members to set up appt.) the next day and no one called back. Lame. So we are hoping that this coming up Sunday we will get more. We are trying to do service for people too but everyone always says no. It's sad.

But on the bright side we have a baptism this weekend!!!!! Her name is Tasha and she is 10. She has a less active mom. Her mom wants to go to church but she is really busy with work and redoing a house so it's hard for her to make it. So we are working on getting her to church too. They are really cool I like them alot. That is happening this Saturday. I am also going to a wedding this weekend! Sister Turner taught a hispanic couple that were not married and want to get baptized so they are getting married this weekend and baptized next!

Oh we finally got to go to the temple today!!! It was great to get back! I looked for Sister Wilde but didn't see her. Oh well. For a district activity today we went and played laser tag! It was so fun! After e-mail we are going to play Tennis as a Zone. I'm pretty excited for that!!

We have Zone Conference this coming Friday so I'm pretty excited about that.

I like my new Zone Leaders and District leader. My district leader Elder Price is way funny so it's always fun talking to him.

I forgot my planner again, and that's were I write everything down to remind me what to write in the e-mails. So, of course, I forgot everything I was going to write you.

I really like the members we live with. There is a 16 year old girl and she does our nails! So that's fun! Sister Liddell is the RS pres and Bro Liddell is the WML. So it's nice to live with them.

Oh, did you get the like 20 pictures I e-mailed you and or dad? I looked at the blog and didn't see them up.

Well thanks for the letter and the e-mails! And the stamps! Oh and no mom I got transfered before I got your package so if Sister Dial drops it off at the mission office I will get it Monday. Thanks. Love you all. Love, Sister Anderson

Only in Utah when selling a home, as one of the "selling points" that they have on the sign is "One Free Year of Food Storage!" I will send the picture of it some time soon... I laughed for like 5 min when I saw the sign.

SLC Sisters and Ninth Letter

So I only have a few min to write so its going to have to be short. Sorry. Thanks for the money! I might buy a couple sumer dress shirts with it. But I really have not decided yet. But thanks! And thanks for the letters and e-mials! Sounds like you had a great time at the zoo! You should send me some pictures! Oh I know what I want for christmas! A calender. But like the one that Heather and Andrew made for you and mom!!! B/c I have mine on the desk now and I love it! So I want one for Christmad this year but with pictures of everything that I missed. Like the wedding, vacations, the move (heather and andrews), the new baby. Stuff like that. So make sure you take pictures so I can have them in my calender! I got to go to the temple today and that was nice to go again but I had to wake up at 5:45 so I was so tired! I almost feel asleep like 6 times. haha. B.c there is no work here I never teach! We only give "spiritual thoughts" to leadershop in the stake.

So you know how I like having power. Well being over one strake I am actually abot to control things! Its great! So we were in a meeting with the stake pres and 6 other men....yeah I was able to have them all do things for me. hahaaha. But of course I dont abuse it or anything. It was just a favor taht I asked them but they all did it. Its wonderful! I love being over olny 1 stake! Its so relaxing! And I know all the WML and people in the ward its great!

Thanks for keeping me updated on life back in VA and just all the advice and encouragement. OH do you know how many stakes are in VA? Peopel ask me that alot here. Thakns again for everyting! Oh and a conference call might be fun to do when I call in a few weeks. Love you lots. Love, Sister Anderson

Mill Creek Zone and Eighth Letter: Transferred

Date: Thu, 8 Apr 2010 14:08:27 -0600Subject: Transfered.From: sara.anderson@myldsmail.netTo: homeecdiva@hotmail.com

I got transferred to Tooele. It is almost as far west as you can get in my mission. I am with Sister Turner. She is from Washington state. I really like her. She has been out for about 9 months. The new sister that was supposed to come out didn't b/c of heath issues. So Sis. Sinclair (my MTC comp) is with Sister Wang. It should be an interesting transfer. They are both very dominate personality people. I didn't bring my planner today so I can't look back at my week to tell you about it. So I will try my very best to remember. Oh I need stamps! If you dont mind sending me some.

Tuesday I went with Sister Reyes and Sister Bliss, I e-mailed dad a picture with them, because Sister Wang was with all the other departing missionaries who went to the temple all day with Pres. and Sister Sonne. They are spanish speaking sisters. I am meant to speak spanish and tranfer to be a Spanish sister! I loved it! We spent the evening with a family. We ate dinner with them, had a lesson, and a testimony meeting. We were going to watch The Testaments but we ran out of time b/c the dad pulled out some cake after testimonies and all was lost. haha. But it was one of the most amazing things to hear the parents bare their testimonies on how they know this church is true and how they want to join! It was really cool. So I want to learn spanish and transfer to be with the spanish sisters. Sister Bliss brought me her Spanish book from the MTC so I can learn. Don't know how well it will go with me teaching myself. haha.

We don't go to the temple b/c we are 45 min away so if we went we would have to wake up at 4 am. (b/c the member that takes them wants to go to the 6 am session) But we might have found someone that will take us to the 8 am session so we would not have to get up till 6!

Three of the girls that I taught are getting baptized on Sunday!!! You Jia, Si Yun, and Amy. I am so sad I have to miss it! I sent dad a picture of them too.

Conference was amazing!!! I loved it! I got to sit in Plaza 1 for 2 sessions! I shook Elder Perry and Oaks hands, like 7 members of the 70, and women from the general presidencys. OH and Emma sat next to me for the very first session!!! She was only a few rows up from me so she moved back and sat with me!!!! She also gave me a present....ninja turtle socks!!! They are so cool! After Saturday session we got home and I asked Sister Wang who she got to give us a ride to conference and she goes, "Oh, I forgot".....SO I started thinking of who could take us and I go. "Sister Wixum!! She has to go to conference now! She is the General Primary Pres!!" So we called Sister Wixum to give us a ride to conference. haha. So I got to ride with the general Primary Pres. to conference!!! Her husband is the one that I told you about last week. He used to be the mission pres of the Washington DC mission and is now the WML in one of, now one of, my old wards. It was sooo good to see everyone at conference. I saw: Kels, Katie, Emma, Caily, Kara, Todd, Moa, Sis/Bro Lansing, Aly (old roommate) and Kendall! I looked for Sister Jordana Wilde all day but never found her and then we went to dinner and then back to TS for a lesson while the priesthood session was going on. Well I looked for her again and never found her. Right when we were about to leave I thought to myself, I will see her when I see her. When I least expect it I know I will see her so I will just stop worrying. I turned around and 4 sisters were walking near us. One of them looked like her but I didnt get to excited b/c I could not be so lucky. Well it was her!!!! I was sooo excited to see her!! It just made my day!

Easter was good. Went to conference and then had a dinner appt. and then went to go visit Asian investigators b/c they don't celebrate Easter.

On Monday our lesson cancelled right as we pulled in their driveway...but it was all good b/c 2 elders (our DL and one ZL) called us to see if we had appts. and if we didn't asked if we wanted to go singing with them to investigators. So we did. It was shockingly really fun!!! Oh and it had been snowing all day so I was slidding. It was kind of scary but I did pretty good and Sister wWang said I did good too! haha. So thanks dad! After singing we were walking to the cars and of course a snowball came flying at me! One of the elders threw it and so then there was this huge snowball fight where me and the 2 elders just attacked each other. Then Sister Wang ran around in her Asian accent saying-- who knows what. It was great!

There is a girl in my zone from VA! I know her brother and sister -in- law! Small world! Her name is Sister Stoner and she is to my right in the huge sister's pictures. Um this week was just all weird b/c of conference and transfers so I dont have to0 much to report. Thanks for the e-mails!!! Love you all. Love, Sister Anderson
